Productivity

It's been a really productive day for me, personally and professionally. I went into school to prep for the return on Monday, and I've got Language Arts planned until Easter. Such a good feeling to not have to scramble from day to day with lessons!

As for my writing, I've been bountiful today. I started typing up my Egyptian travel journal, with an eye to writing a memoir mixed with myth, and I got over a thousand words in.

Then, after doing some dishes (go me!) I got back to work on the new Modern Fantasy YA. It's over 10,000 words now, and she did in fact kill two mortals. I like the twists and turns this plot is leading me on, and now I'm going to explore in detail the different kinds of magic I've established in this world. Darlena needs her ex boyfriend to help her, but the magic he is sworn to will ultimately collide with Darlena's path. In the meantime, however, he's a very fun addition to the story, and will probably save her ass a few times. It's just as likely that she'll end up saving him, but I know it won't last: they are too opposite in their purposes in this strange world I am building.

Fantasy is allowing me to flex some new muscles. I've always been an avid fantasy reader, so I shouldn't be surprised that I am now writing in the genre, but it's such a departure from the historical fiction I am so steeped in.

I love chasing random rainbows...and seeing what I find on the other side.

  1. have you read Sweep? it's a YA really super cheesy "magic/wiccan" series with all sorts of misinformation and Gaelic words thrown in! Austin and I both read it and loved/hated it.
