It's been a really busy week. My TA course has over 50 students, so I feel like all I've been doing once I get home is frantically grading. But things will slow down: my three week break from work starts on Tuesday, so that gives me a chance to focus on writing more and worrying less about ignoring my husband. When I get my writing done at night, I always feel guilty for abandoning him to his own devices. But without work hours, I'll have a chance to be productive during the day, and maybe I won't feel guilty for ignoring him anymore!
I'm really excited to report that my YA WIP is over 53K words: it's officially a novel! It's been so amazing seeing myself meet the one thousand word goal night after night: I don't know that I've ever been this focused and dedicated. I think I deserve a pat on the back.
Setting question: is it jarring to shift from the modern real world to the mythological underworld after two thirds of the book? The plot is twisting in ways I never anticipated, and I can't wait to see where it takes me, but I'm worried that a setting change like this is too much for reader believability. I guess I just have to make them believe!
It's not just the productivity or the time off that excites me. I am particularly looking forward to time spent with beloved friends in the coming days: what are you looking forward to?
I hope your break is just as productive as your 1k a night streak! I think the switch in setting to the mythological world is ok so long as you've been building towards it throughout your story. Best of luck plotting!
