Book Review: Radiant Darkness by Emily Whitman

I love mythic re-tellings, and Emily Whitman has delivered a beautiful one in Radiant Darkness. This YA novel re-imagines the myth of Hades and Persephone with an empowering twist: what if Persephone was not a victim, but an active participant in her life?

Based on that rendering, Whitman's Persephone chooses to leave her mother for love. But it's not that simple, and before the tale is done, she has encountered betrayal, passion, and love from a variety of sources. This is a fast read and will appeal to anyone who likes a good love story, and everyone who loves mythology.
