100 Books in 2012: Book 17 "Daughter of Smoke and Bone"

Laini Taylor's new novel deserves all the buzz it has received. The book is listed on YALSA's top 10 titles for 2012, but even before seeing that, I had wanted to read this novel. The more I read of Taylor, the more I adore her.

Karou is a mysterious girl with teal hair, countless tiny wishes, and otherworldly guardians. Raised by Chimaera, Karou lives a double life: she is both an eccentric 17-year-old art student in Prague and an errand girl for her strange "family". Using ingenious portals, Karou travels the world, usually making it home in time to sleep and resume "normal" life. But the Chimaera are involved in a war, and Karou's identity may be another casualty.

If you like tales of the fey, tales of the unknown, tales where the line between good and evil is infinitely blurred, or simply tales of escape, read this amazing book.
