I just finished S.M. Boyce's "Lichgates", the first novel in the Grimoire Trilogy.
Kara is a college sophomore struggling with the loss of her mother when she steps through a lichgate and into another world. Ourea is brutal, beautiful, and magical, and when Kara finds a magical book, her fate becomes linked to that of the strange new world. As the next Vagabond, Kara has magical powers, but more than that: she has an unfinished responsibility from the first Vagabond to bring peace to the waring races of Ourea. With the help of Braeden, heir to one of the kingdoms, Kara embarks on an epic quest in search of the Vagabond's village: it is only with the knowledge of her predecessor that she will be able to achieve any kind of peace in Ourea.
The setting of this magical world is luscious and richly imagined, and Kara adapts quickly to her new circumstances. It's nice to read high fantasy that isn't wrapped up in sex, and seeing a strong female protagonist was pleasant. If you are a classic fantasy fan, check out this novel!

Lichgates is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Goodreads.
