D is for Desire

Synonyms
1. covet, fancy. See wish.
2. solicit.
3. aspiration, hunger, appetite, thirst.

Desire, craving, longing, yearning suggest feelings that impel one to the attainment or possession of something.

Desire is a strong feeling, worthy or unworthy, that impels to the attainment or possession of something that is (in reality or imagination) within reach: a desire for success.

Craving implies a deep and imperative wish for something, based on a sense of need and hunger: a craving for food, companionship.

A longing is an intense wish, generally repeated or enduring, for something that is at the moment beyond reach but may be attainable at some future time: a longing to visit Europe. Yearning suggests persistent, uneasy, and sometimes wistful or tender longing: a yearning for one's native land.

You might be a brilliant storyteller, but if that isn't where your desire rests, you won't pursue the writing life. As with any dream, writing is challenging. But that spark, that desire, can help you keep going even when the odds seem stacked against you. Books do get published every day: why not yours? If you follow your desire fully, you energize the whole process.

What do you desire? How can you make that desire manifest in your life?

  2. Hi Jen, my desire is to grow my readership and have more folks enjoy my novels. As far as desire to write being important, I agree. I'd even take that one step further and say that for me, obsession to write is a factor that fuels me through the ups and downs and back ups!

  3. This is so true. If you don't have a passion for writing you're odds of becoming published are limited. Great to meet you on the challenge.

  4. So true. Our spark is our essence, without it we fail.

My desire is to collect as many snippets as I can, for now I lack the time to move beyond that. Also, to create a larger reading community, hence the reason to join such a challenge. :)

    I love this one!

    1. Good for you! I attempted to make a quilt last spring: it turned out alright, and I really enjoyed the process. Someday, I'd like to do that again. Thanks for dropping by!
