Amazing YA Fantasy

I'm lucky to have a husband who indulges my reading habits. A few days ago, he brought me "Akata Witch" by Nnedi Okorafor after a trip to the library. Seconds later, I was hooked.

This story plays with African "juju" or magic, creating a unique fantasy world for readers and characters. The influence of modern fantasy authors like J.K Rowling is obvious when reading this novel, but it maintains its own identity. I loved this book, and it's given me some ideas for my own WIP.

Speaking of the WIP, wow I've been productive! I didn't think I'd spend as much time writing each day as I have: I've been adding over a thousand words each night to the second book of the trilogy, in addition to spending hours fiddling with book one. I am so luck that I can take the time to be a full-time writer right now, and I'm so glad I took this chance. There's no way I'd have been able to do half of what I've done in the last week if I were still sneaking in writing after a hard day of work.

I know this is likely not a permanent state of affairs. I realize this. And yet, I am loving every moment of it.
