First Day of Class

I spent today in throes of nervous misery. Yoga didn't soothe me. Sushi did nothing to calm me. Even an evening walk with my love left me strung out and wound up.

Why? Because tonight I taught my first community college course.

When I got to campus this evening, I almost had a meltdown: the computer that was connected to the LCD projector demanded that I log in. Um, ok, but I haven't even signed a contract yet: I don't exactly have tech information. After scrambling around to see if any of the other teachers (two on my floor) who had night classes could shed any light on the situation, I restarted the computer...and it logged in automatically.

From that point on, I was off and running. My class is basic writing, and I have a diverse and wonderful group of adult students. I wasn't nervous when class started, and that's saying something: I was still always nervous in front of my middle schoolers at the start of a school year. I had so much fun with the class! The two hours passed quickly, and now I'm bouncing around the house looking for mead and dessert while my poor husband wants to go to sleep.

All in all, an excellent first class. And I get another first class tomorrow morning: same course, different section. I'm psyched!
