100 Books in 2012: Book 18 "City of Bones"

So, I did things backward: last year, I read "Clockwork Angel", and this year I finally went to the start of Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments world. As expected, I loved this book!

When Clary's mother disappears, Clary learns that her own past is riddled with myth and magic. She is the descendant of a long line of Shadowhunters, beings who kill demons and inhabit a hidden world. Her mother's disappearance, the evil Shadowhunter Valentine, and something called the Mortal Instruments are all tied up together with Clary's fate. As people keep reminding her, "all the stories are true." As she struggles to take her place in a world of myth, magic, and demons, Clary learns some frightening truths about her family.

If you enjoy action, adventure, and modern fantasy tales, this is one you won't want to miss.
