100 Books in 2012: Book 39 "The Book of Blood and Shadows"

I didn't want to put Robin Wasserman's amazing story of alchemy and betrayal down. This book is nominated for YALSA's top ten, and there are so many reasons why.

Nora is a high school senior with a battered heart.  Her older brother died in a car crash while she was still young, and since that time, Nora has felt like an orphan.  Her mother shut down, and her father shut his door, so Nora takes refuge in her studies.  Her best friend, Chris, signs her up to help him on a translation project for a crazy old professor at the local college, but nothing is as simple as it seems.  When Chris is found murdered clutching a page of ancient Latin, Nora begins the quest for answers.  But will she learn more than she's prepared for?

If you liked "Daughter of Smoke and Bone" and "A Discovery of Witches", or if you grew up on Indian Jones, you'll love this complex tale.

Support the other challenge participants as the year goes on.

What did you do this weekend?  Anybody read anything great that you'd like to recommend?

  1. Jen, I started reading this one, too! Just finished up my work for a class for my Master's in Library science, so I'm hoping to finish it soon. I've liked it so far, and really enjoyed "Daughter of Smoke and Bone", too.
