Newberrys and Just for Fun

Here are a couple of must-reads if you like YA:

"Moon Over Manifest" by Clare Vanderpool is one of the few books in the past decade that I felt truly deserves the Newberry award. Told in seamless voice that alternates between the Great Depression and the Great War, this book made me chuckle, choke up, and sigh with pleasure.

In my quest to find a good read aloud book to end the year with my 8th graders, the amazing Media Specialist at my school suggested "Turnabout" by Margaret Peterson Haddix. Although I felt like the ending was happier than I like in sci-fi, I loved this novel. The premise is appropriately cautionary, and this is another story that jumps back and forth between times with skill. Even if you don't like sci-fi, this would be a quick and engaging read.

Any book suggestions for me?
