Back from vacation

It's been a busy two weeks. My best friend had a birthday, to start. Then I had two more poems accepted for publication (yay!), accepted a part time position teaching writing composition at the local community college, and traveled 2500 miles.

I didn't get much writing or reading done, but in the past few days, I did get caught up on two books.

First was "Untold Story" by Monica Ali. This novel posits that Princess Diana faked her own death and has been living in hiding all this time. It was an ok read, but hard to really get immersed in the story because it was so closely tied to reality, and the alternate that was proposed didn't seem plausible.

I devoured "A Discovery of Witches" by Deborah E. Harkness. What a great fantasy read! I wish the author had done more world building...she drops tantalizing hints about the magical possibilities of her world, only to move on quickly. The book is poised for a sequel, and I hope there is one in the works!

Today should be fairly light. Yoga this morning, coffee with a good friend this afternoon, and leftover Indian food for dinner. I'm enjoying the quiet while it lasts: I start teaching on August 15. As one of the friends I visited on this trip put it, "you're still a full-time writer. You just happen to teach part-time."

  1. Congrats on the poetry acceptances! Nothing like that to affirm the writing path you are on.

Also, I’ve nominated you for an award.
