Vera is a sympathetic character struggling to deal with betrayal in a variety of forms, the worst of which is the recent death of her best friend. With a father who tries too hard to make up for her absent mother, a job at a pizza delivery place, and scads of memories, both good and bad, about her friendship with Charlie, Vera is headed for either a massive meltdown--or redemption.

Readers who like sometimes harsh realism, like the works by Sharon Draper, will love Vera and her search for truth.
